Established in 1900 by former United States Congressman W.C. Anderson as a weekly, The Newport Plain Talk has been in continuous publication serving the residents of Cocke and surrounding counties. A prize-winning newspaper, it and its staff have received numerous awards throughout the years for reporting, photography, and design.
It continues to operate today as a tri-weekly publication owned by Jones Media. The Editor and Co-Publisher is David Popiel and the Managing Editor is Rick Hooper. The Advertising Manager is Betty McMillan. The Sports Editor is Seth Butler.
